I have synesthesia and in manifests in different people in many
different ways. One of the ways it manifests in me is that I can
smell photos, so if I see a photo of some lavender, for instance,
I smell lavender. If I see a photo of a person I can smell them
too. You might think this is very odd, because how could I
possibly know how someone I have never met smells, but I do.
One thing that seems to fascinate people more than anything is
when I tell them that words also smell to me, all words, so names
do too. I can be talking to someone on social media and be
overwhelmed by the scent of their name and if it is an unpleasant
smell I avoid talking to them or even reading their name.
When I mentioned this I suddenly had a lot of people asking me to
tell them what their name smells like, or even their company name.
I was quickly becoming overwhelmed with demands and so I decided
that I would ask for a little compensation for my efforts if I was
going to do a full analysis of someone's name or business name.
